Elements and Performance Criteria

1. Plan and prepare for blending operations
   • Access, interpret and apply blending documentation and ensure the work activity is compliant
   • Obtain, read, interpret, clarify and confirm work requirements
   • Identify and address potential risks, hazards and environmental issues, and implement control measures
   • Select and wear correct personal protective equipment appropriate for work activities
   • Inspect and prepare work area in coordination with others
   • Obtain and interpret emergency procedures, and be prepared for fire/accident/emergency
2. Operate the blending plant
   • Carry out pre-start, start-up, run and shutdown procedures
   • Coordinate activities with others prior to commencing and during work activities
   • Select and modify the operating technique to meet changing work conditions
   • Conduct, control and monitor operations within the equipment limitations, maintaining blending efficiency and effectiveness
   • Act on or report performance monitoring systems and alarms
   • Complete the work plan
3. Carry out post-operational procedures
   • Inspect, fault find and report faults verbally or in writing
   • Carry out operational maintenance, servicing, lubricating and housekeeping tasks
   • Maintain, process and pass on written records and reports

Performance Evidence

Evidence is required to be collected that demonstrates a candidate’s competency in this unit. Evidence must be relevant to the roles within this sector’s work operations and satisfy all of the requirements of the performance criteria of this unit and include evidence that the candidate:

locates and applies relevant documentation, policies and procedures

works effectively with others to undertake and complete the blending plant operations that meets all of the required outcomes including:

using a range of communications techniques and equipment to convey information to others

complying with written and verbal reporting requirements and procedures

clarifying work requirements and instructions

inspecting and preparing work area and equipment

demonstrates completion of the blending plant operations that safely, effectively and efficiently meets all of the required outcomes on more than one (1) occasion including:

completing work plan

completing post operational procedures

carry out pre-start, start up and shutdown procedures

conduct, control and monitor blending operations

identify and respond to alarms and signals

plant components functions, characteristics, technical capability and limitations
